Together We Thrive: Appeeling x Glad Day Bookshop
Glad Day Bookshop in Toronto is the oldest queer bookstore in the world. Serving the LGBTQ community since 1970 and offer the widest possible selection of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit, and queer literature.
After receiving an ultimatum from the bookshop’s landlord about $100,000 in rent arrears, largely due to the long-term effects of COVID closures, staff launched “Save Glad Day” . The community spirit is so strong that they were able to raise the back rent in a matter of days. But fundraiser is ongoing: Glad Day is fundraising for a total of $300,000 to create some breathing room for the 55-year-old bookstore and event space to figure out what it’s going to be next for this Toronto institution.
This bookshop is a really important community space that needs to be protected.
At Appeeling, we have enjoyed our time at Pride for many years and when I read this about Glad Day (thank you @pureivorydotca), I knew it is time to do something different. This year @torontopride you will only buy Appeeling pasties in person at Glad Day. 100% of all sales will be donated to Save Glad Day. It is our way of saying 'thank you' and 'I love you' to our home and our community of friends who have always loved us.
